It is also the first compact CNC laser head that not only marks metal, but deep-engraves it. For the reason it utilizes blue laser light, it can efficiently process materials that infrared lasers struggle with. Furthermore, it can be adapted to nearly any CNC machine. This lightweight, high power, cost-efficient, and easy to use laser is an ideal choice for high-volume industrial applications and demanding individual users alike.

  • High-Pressure Air Nozzle Prevents High Upkeep – With the high-pressure air nozzle you can clean the lens 10x less often. The pressurized air also speeds up the cutting and engraving process by removing smoke and preventing excessive dirt build-up on the lens. In addition, the directed airflow cools down the working site, resulting in a lack of defects and a uniform engraving contrast.
  • Integrated Control Electronics – Designed to prevent your laser diodes from dying prematurely, the control electronics are integrated within the laser module. With no redundant wiring, you don’t need to worry about dangerous inductance effects. 
  • Longer Lifetime – Blue laser diodes have longer lifetimes because they don’t suffer from random failure and age more slowly at higher temperatures. The typical lifetime of the laser’s blue laser diodes is equal to 20,000 hours. In contrast, a lifetime of an average glass CO2 tube laser cutter and engraver equals 3,000 hours.

 

Working Distance And Beam Spot Width

The PLH3D-15W Engraving Laser Head has a working distance of 3.5 mm (0.14”) as measured from the nozzle. In order to ease the cutting process for slightly thicker materials, users can detach the high-pressure air nozzle from the module by rotating the piece. It is worth remembering that doing so will increase the working distance to 27 mm (1.06”) as measured from the face of the laser module.

The focused beam spot measures less than 180 µm. This feature enables it to achieve a power density in excess of 1.5 MW/cm² (CW).  

 
Equipped with a High-Pressure Air Nozzle

The High-Pressure Air Nozzle doubles up as an air cooler for the material being cut or engraved. It minimizes the heat spread from the newly formed edges that could burn the specimen and form undesirable defects. Fresh air also speeds up the laser cutting or engraving process.

Additionally, a common issue encountered during laser engraving or cutting is the generation of smoke particles that form deposits on the face of the laser's optics. The resulting deposition absorbs a portion of the laser beam, causing unnecessary processing power losses. If this process continues for long enough, the accumulated build-up may even permanently damage the optical element it’s been deposited on.

Favorably, the high-pressure air nozzle that the PLH3D-15W Engraving Laser Head is equipped with, provides a reliable solution to this problem. The compressed air flow keeps the fumes away from the lens, significantly decelerating the build-up process. Consequently, our laser module exhibits long-lasting high performance that can substantially outlive products offered by other manufacturers of engraving laser modules.

Integrated High-Speed Laser Driver

Within the range of our products, we also specialize in the production of advanced laser diode drivers. With our experience accumulating over the years, we’ve created a novel high-efficiency driver with low power consumption and low waste heat production. Notably, the PLH3D-15W Engraving Laser Head is equipped with the fastest laser head driver on the market, accepting signals with a modulation bandwidth spanning from above 0 kHz up to 30 kHz. Consequently, using a 15 W laser at high speeds is as effective as possible. The laser can be used to engrave elaborate details or to make fine radius turns. As a number of CNC controllers can send modulation signals at high bandwidth, the implementation of a high-speed laser driver within your system is a must.

Key Features of the Laser Driver:

  • Input Signal Versatility - the driver is designed to accept a diverse variety of both analog (0-5 V) and PWM/TTL signals (0-5 V, 0-12 V and 0-24 V)

  • Compatible with a Wide Range of PSUs (Power Supply Units) - the driver is capable of accepting 19-24 V of PSU voltage thanks to the integrated high-efficiency DC-DC converter, which adjusts the input voltage to fit the appropriate diode compliance voltage. This also effectively minimizes the amount of the waste heat generated as well as ensures over-voltage protection.

  • High Efficiency of 90% - the driver converts 90% of the power supply into electric power of the diode

  • Able to Operate at High Input Voltage and Power - of 24 V and 120 W respectively

Caution:

  • Remember that it is not a toy.
  • Laser radiation is dangerous even when scattered or reflected from any surface.
  • Always use a proper protection laser filter on your CNC machine designed for 430 - 480 nm in order to avoid reflected radiation.
  • Never point a laser head at people or animals.
  • Do not touch the beam, it may cause burns or other injuries.
  • Do not stare at the beam or the beam spot while the material is being cut.
  • Laser radiation - Avoid eye or skin exposure to direct or scattered radiation.
  • Class 4 laser product.

Great kit for Avid CNC

The kit works really well with my 5x10 Avid CNC for the most part I’m really please with it. Setup was easy and straight forward with a video on YouTube. There are 2 things I would like to suggest 1: given a little more length on the cable. There wasn’t any play in the length. 2: a gasket for the lens. I did a really long burn taking a few hours and my water catch for my air line got full without me noticing and the water got pushed into the laser and all over the beam merger which required me to disassemble the whole laser to clean the water and oil so the laser would focus again. This is my fault and not the lasers but I think a gasket would help stop a major failure of the laser in the future. But even after that the laser is working great.

The perfect tool for any serious CNC usr

I have been using the 15W laser for over 6 months and getting great rest straight from out of the box. It fits easily on my Avid CNC and is great for cutting 1/8th plywood for the more intricate jobs. It took a while to sort the air compressor out as it was more trial and error. I fully recommend this product

6W and 15W

I ended up buying both of the 6W and the 15W lasers. I was very impressed on how easy they are to install and program on an Avid cnc. I'm hoping they come out with a stronger laser soon.

Excellent Laser!

I upgraded my JTech 7W to the 15W laser and it is a beast. Works great - and a perfect alternative to large CO2 lasers (for thin material processing). Given I am able to combine CNC and Laser in 1, this is a great product.

Great laser!

Just received this laser, installed on my Shapeoko 3. Very easy install, in a few minutes. High quality materials. Tried engraving wood, glass and metals with great results.

Such a Beaty

I have had this laser for 4 weeks now and i love it! But what i love the most is the service and the communication that you get from the guys from Opt Laser! Awesome lads all of them! Helpful and they are always quick at answering on question! Looking forward to be one of the guys who could try future new products;!

This is a great laser head.

I have been using this laser for a couple months and it has really performed well on many different materials. This will cut wood and other organic materials easily, and engrave both organic and many metals beautifully.
