About the PLH3D-6W-uSpot Engraving Laser Head

The youngest and most precise member of our PLH3D family of laser heads. A higher optical performance and energy density with a smaller spot size (compared to other 6 W lasers) gives this laser head faster engraving speeds and allows for the cutting of thin materials like textiles and films.  It comes with a new type of customized, easy-to-clean lens. More information about laser head is here.

About the PLH3D-CNC Universal Laser Adapter

The key function of the PLH3D-CNC Adapter is to “arm” and “disarm” the laser head. Arming means turning the head power supply on; the armed head is then able to generate a laser beam. Disarming (turning the head power supply off) brings the laser head in a safe state where generating a laser beam is fully impossible.

The laser head may be checked by generating a short laser pulse at maximum power.

Built-in safety means prevent misuse and unexpected behavior at an emergency. The key switch protects the laser head against arming by children and other unauthorized persons. Arming the laser head is always done manually by the user, by pressing a button. A special circuitry prevents arming at any malfunction of internal electronics. The laser head is being automatically disarmed in case of emergency: loss of the mains supply, PSU failure, breaking or disconnecting the laser head cable. After disarming, the system remains in a safe state and rearming always requires pressing the button by the user.

Description of connectivity wires for different physical connectors available in your CNC machines. Simply choose the one which fits your machine!

Universal Kit Pins

1. Male gold pin header connector -  allows connecting to a gold pin female connector. One needs to find two slots responsible for modulation signal. Analog output 0-5 V or Analog output 0-10 V or TTL/PWM output, and GND. Simply plug the blue wire to the GND and red wire to the signal which is used by the machine to operate the laser. Use the terminal block electric strip to connect the blue and red wire with labeled wires of the Universal Adapter.  

2. Tinned copper wires -  allows connecting to SMD or THT of the CNC controller. One needs to find two vias/holes or parts on the PCB responsible for modulation signal. Analog output 0-5 V or Analog output 0-10 V or TTL/PWM output, and GND. Simply solder the wires to the part of the PCB board of the controller, the blue wire to the GND signal and red wire to the signal which is used by the machine to operate the laser. Use the terminal block electric strip to connect the blue and red wire with labeled wires of the Universal Adapter.

3. Female gold pin header connector -  allows connecting to a gold pin male connector. One needs to find two pins responsible for modulation signal. Analog output 0-5 V or Analog output 0-10 V or TTL/PWM output, and GND. Simply plug the blue wire to the GND and red wire to the signal which is used by the machine to operate the laser. Use the terminal block electric strip to connect the blue and red wire with labeled wires of the Universal Adapter.  

4. Insulated wire end sleeves - allows connecting to terminal blocks and screw connectors. One needs to find two terminals of a connector responsible for modulation signal. Analog output 0-5 V or Analog output 0-10 V or TTL/PWM output, and GND. Simply insert the blue wire to the GND terminal and red wire to the modulation signal terminal which is used by the machine to operate the laser and tighten the screws. Use the terminal block electric strip to connect the blue and red wire with labeled wires of the Universal Adapter.

5. Male D-SUB connector -  allows connecting to any kind of a female D-SUB connector. One needs to find two slots responsible for modulation signal. Analog output 0-5V or Analog output 0-10 V or TTL/PWM output, and GND. Simply plug the blue wire to the GND and red wire to the signal which is used by the machine to operate the laser. Use the terminal block electric strip to connect the blue and red wire with labeled wires of the Universal Adapter. 

6. Press fit male gold pin header connector -  allows connecting to a gold pin male connector. One needs to find two vias/holes in the PCB responsible for modulation signal. Analog output 0-5 V or Analog output 0-10 V or TTL/PWM output, and GND. Simply press the connector into the via/hole in the PCB board of the controller, the blue wire to the GND and red wire to the signal which is used by the machine to operate the laser. Use the terminal block electric strip to connect the blue and red wire with labeled wires of the Universal Adapter.    

7. Female D-SUB connector - allows connecting to any kind of a male D-SUB connector it can also be used to connect to other types of connectors which are using male pins. One needs to find two pins responsible for modulation signal. Analog output 0-5 V or Analog output 0-10 V or TTL/PWM output, and GND. Simply plug the blue wire to the GND and red wire to the signal which is used by the machine to operate the laser. Use the terminal block electric strip to connect the blue and red wire with labeled wires of the Universal Adapter.

Caution:

  • Remember that it is not a toy.
  • Laser radiation is dangerous even when scattered or reflected from any surface.
  • Always use proper protection laser filter on your CNC machine dedicated to 430 - 480 nm in order to avoid reflected radiation.
  • Never point laser head at people or animals.
  • Do not touch the beam, it may cause burns or another injury.
  • Do not stare at the beam or the beam spot while the material is being cut.
  • Laser radiation - Avoid eye or skin exposure to direct or scattered radiation. 
  • Class 4 laser product.
