1. After starting the program, LightBurn should automatically detect the settings stored in the CNC xPRO v4 controller memory.
  2. Once the xPRO v4 CNC Controller is connected to the computer, it should be detected automatically by the program. This can be checked by clicking “Window” and then selecting “Laser” in the pull-down menu. Select “Devices” below the Laser window and under “Your Device List” should be “GRBL”, assuming the xPRO v4 CNC was detected properly by the program.

  1. If the machine parameters were not previously set in another program, you can configure them manually in the Menu by clicking “Edit” → “Machine Settings”.

  1. Set the motor speeds on each axis. Set X Steps per mm to ($100), Y Steps per mm to ($101), and Z Steps per mm to $102. Calculations can be done using step calculators found online, such as GRBL Settings Calculator and Prusa Calculator. The following parameters are needed to perform calculations:
  2. Drive type and parameters (screw or belt)
  3. Engine parameters
  4. Motor controller parameters (how many steps can be set)
  5. After making changes, save the settings to the controller by clicking the "Write" button.

  1. Once the machine has been configured, you can see if everything is working by moving the arrows on the "Move" panel. This function can accessed from the Menu by clicking “Windows” →  “Move”.

  1. Once motor operation has been tested and the machine has been zeroed, laser testing can begin.
  2. Always remember to use safety glasses or goggles and other safety precautions when working with the laser!
  3. Go to the main program window and draw a sample diagram or text in the work field. Next, click the “Start” button in the Laser window and examine the engraving pattern.
